Welcome to Sawtell Nippers 2010-2011, especially to new nippers and their families!

Also, a big ‘welcome back’ if you are returning and can’t wait to start the new season. This is the first of a regular newsletter, to help you keep up with important dates, activities, carnival information and general club gossip. Please provide your Age Manager with a VALID email address, so that we can ensure that the newsletter reaches you. It also contributes to saving paper! Please read on……

DATES TO REMEMBER

October 10: First day of Nippers (as if you didn’t know).

            Please assemble for roll-marking on the grassed area near the Surf Club by

8:45 am.

October 24: Sawtell Nippers will be held at JETTY BEACH (All Age Groups).

Today’s activities will be held at Jetty Beach, and will include open-water proficiency assessments. We will be using the area south of the Jetty structure. Names will also be marked on and off at Jetty Beach, so don’t come to Sawtell as you will be very lonely. Normal start time (8.45 at Jetty Beach).

October 30: (Saturday morning at Jetty Beach: Board Training):

This is a final opportunity for those U8s-U14s who wish to participate in the upcoming Jetty Carnival, but have not yet achieved open-water proficiency, to attain this proficiency. Please contact your Age Manager if this applies to you.

October 31: Carnival at Jetty Beach (U8 to U14)

First carnival of the season! Please see your Age Manager for details of when & where to turn up etc. Black & White quartered caps are required for ALL competitors. This cap is available for purchase ($10) if required. Please contact Leanne James if you need a cap. Remember, you must have completed all of your required proficiencies to compete.

Note: U6&U7 Nippers Activities (Black & Gold caps) will not take place on this day.

BOARD TRAINING:

Board Training has commenced again. This is a great opportunity for nippers to enhance their board riding skills. Please see your Age Manager (or the 2010-2011 Information Booklet) for details. The Booklet is on our Web page, http://www.sawtellslsc.hot.net.au/nippers.htm .

CARNIVAL OFFICIALS:

All clubs are required to supply officials at Carnivals where they are competing. Our club is currently a bit ‘light on’ in terms of trained officials, although we’re working on it. Becoming an official is an opportunity to provide practical and genuinely helpful involvement to assist in the smooth running of carnivals. You will also learn heaps about Surf Lifesaving! If you are interested in learning to qualify as an official, please contact one of the Committee members.

SOCIAL COLUMN:

We are planning to hold a ‘Start of Season’ BBQ (or similar) to formally welcome new families (and old) to Sawtell Nippers this season. Sunday 17 October (2^nd Nippers Day) is a ‘tentative’ date, we will let you know details ASAP.
